Nintendo's Overpriced Business Model Just COLLAPSED

Nintendo Switch 2 game prices are collapsing across the United States. Costco is currently selling first-party Switch 2 titles like Pokemon Legends ZA, Metroid Prime 4 Beyond, and Kirby Air Riders for just $29.97... a 57% discount on games that launched less than six months ago. But Costco isn't the only retailer slashing prices. Woot has been offering discounts on games like Mario Kart World and Animal Crossing New Horizons Switch 2 Edition for months, and Nintendo themselves just launched a Spotlight Sale on the eShop with third-party Switch 2 games discounted by up to 50%. When you line up every price cut on a timeline, a clear pattern emerges... and it points to a serious demand problem for Switch 2 software in western markets.

Nintendo's own financial data confirms the issue. Through three quarters, the Switch 2 has sold 37.93 million software units across 17.37 million consoles: an attach rate of just 2.18 games per system over nine months. Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa told investors in February that overseas Switch 2 sales were "somewhat weaker than expected," while Japanese sales exceeded projections. Shortly after, Bloomberg reported that Nintendo cut Switch 2 production by over 30%, and Nintendo announced that starting May 2026, digital first-party Switch 2 games would carry a lower MSRP than physical copies... a pricing structure the company has never used before.
